Potty training notesBaby gifts website talks about Potty fun !
Ok here it comes potty training ........be warned accidents WILL happen!
Potty training is inevitable and comes to us all. The main thing is to remember that each baby is unique and develops at different times than others. When your child is ready, that's when to start
. not before and not after. Not that you can always plan it, but if it's potty training time and its summer, this means they can learn outside with less 'accidents' inside.
The main point is to recognize when your child is ready and don't listen to other parents as to when their child started, it's not a competition. All children will be using the toilet by the time they are 5 years old. Every child is an individual and it is really important to remember that.
What are the signs when baby / toddler is ready to start?
Check for awareness of when baby realizes they have gone to the toilet (wee or poo) in their nappy. If your child has regular bowel movements then you can get them to sit on the potty at the right time and praise them if they manage to use it. We found giving them rewards particularly successful and definitely worth a try. Look on the web for companies that provide gifts and treats for children to encourage them. Reward charts or even toys (we used simple wooden toys) are great motivators.
In summary:
- Not a competition - Start when baby / toddler is ready - Rewards, gifts and incentives are key
Potty training II
As your little one grows and gets bigger, so the task of potty training starts to arrive. Its one of those moments that parents and toddlers just need to go through and get on with it. Be aware, there WILL be accidents so the sooner you get to terms with that the better. Being toilet trained is a very important milestone for you and your little one and marks the point of greater independence
.there will be more of this independence Im afraid as baby gets older and older.
Girls broadly show a better bodily awareness first. Training can begin from 2 years onward but three or four years old is normal as well. Each little one is individual so dont stress as to exactly when you should start
.you will know and see the signs.
1. They start to talk about wee and Poo 2. They advice you they are about to go 3. They advise you when they have been 4. Nappy is dry after naps etc
4little1s Mums tip 1 : Buy a good supply of underwear and make it fun by selecting ones with their favourite TV characters or patterns.
4little1s.com Mums tip 2: Buy a mattress protector (waterproof membrane) for your Childs mattress to prevent any little accidents soaking into the mattress.
Mattress protectors come in a few different styles, fitted, tie on or Terry. The fitted protectors fit snugly over the mattress almost like another sheet. They are simple and easy to put on and easily wiped clean and dry. The tie on ones are the same as the fitted but have tie ons to ensure a snug fit. The Terry ones offer a little more comfort by having material on the top part but a waterproof membrane underneath to ensure the mattress keeps dry and clean.
