If you are shopping for baby bedding for the very first time, here are some things to think about and that will help you choose the right product for you:

Do you know if your baby is a boy or a girl? We recently carried out a survey and discovered that 50% of parents-to-be wanted to know the sex of their baby before it is born. I am happy to say that in these cases the hospitals were 100% correct in the information that they gave!! So if you are one of these and you do know, you are able to make plans for the nursery well in advance. If you don’t know, don’t feel pressured to have everything ready, for the first few months all that you need is a moses basket and plenty of nappies and not much more! There are of course some lovely neutral ranges of baby bedding which make a perfect choice for boys and girls alike.

Think about what you want the baby bedding for and for how long. Generally babies are in a moses basket or crib for the first few months and rapidly move on to a cot for around two years. This may change according to whether you have other siblings on the way or if like me you wish to wait a little longer before you child discovers the freedom of being able to jump in and out of bed as they please! Buying baby bedding, blankets, sheets and baby bedding sets for your little ones can be quite daunting if you have not done this before. The right bedding is important for a good nights sleep (for you and your baby) and 4little1s.com are here to help.

Top tips for baby blankets and sheets

- Try to go for lightweight blankets and clothing
- In summer opt for cooler tog ratings
- Never use duvets, quilts or pillows if baby is less than a year old
- If you fold a blanket that’s the equivalent of two blankets
- Keep room temperature at around 18C
- If baby feels hot take some of the bedding off

One of the most often comments we hear from customers who have bought baby bedding is that they wish they had bought more at the time. Fundamentally you don’t want to be saying to yourself at 3am when changing dirty cot bedding, ‘ I wish I had bought some more sheets ‘

Baby bedding will need to be changed often to keep it clean and ‘smelling of roses’ so we suggest to buy at least half a dozen sheets and at least a couple of blankets.

If you want to buy coordinated bedding look for deals that have bedding bales as these quite often offer better value as they include lots of baby bedding for your money than buying individually.

Duvet and Pillow points:

Hollow fibre - Environmentally friendly filling, made with a high % of recycled fibre of plastic bottles.
Anti - allergenic - Protects you little one from irritations such as Asthma, dust mites and other allergens, look for ones endorsed by the BAF (British Allergenic Foundation).
