It is really important that your baby has a good night sleep in order for him / her to grow well and be healthy. This guide gives you a brief run down of the four pieces of nursery furniture that will hopefully achieve this.
The Cot Bed
Cot beds are usually more expensive than a cot but they can make economic sense. Once baby grows and suddenly needs a small bed, the cot bed simply converts into just that. If you had bought just a cot originally, you would now be looking for a small junior and also wondering what to now do with the cot. Baby will enjoy the cot bed and grow very familiar with it over time, so when the cot bed becomes too small, baby will just love the 'new' bed as it simply converts and its still the same old familiar piece of Nursery Furniture they have always known. The Cot
As mentioned above, cots are generally cheaper than a cot bed as quite simply there are fewer pieces to it than a cot bed (i.e. it does not convert into a small bed). Typically a cot will last till baby is about 3 years old. Look for cots that have adjustable heights so when baby is small put the mattress at the highest height and then lower down as baby gets older, as well as teething rails. The Crib
When baby is around three months, consider a crib for your nursery to rock baby to sleep.
The Moses basket
Moses baskets make life a little simpler for the first few months. Look for Moses baskets that have stands on them so you don't have to keep bending down to pick the Moses basket up off the floor. These are in effect, portable sleeping devices for baby and are typically used from birth to around three months.
