Baby Weaning advice
Weaning advice for a mum
One way to approach this is to divide it up into three phases, phase one, phase two and you guessed it, phase three.
Phase one:
Typically baby is ready to start eating the solid food around six months onwards, start to consider the introduction of :
- Pureed vegetables - Fruit - Cereal such as rice (avoid wheat based though)
Go at your babies pace and allow them to adjust to this new food. At around seven months start to introduce more solid food before, during or after their milk feeds. If you can, try and give baby things like cereal twice a day and consider trying pureed meat, poultry, lentils and yogurt. That is unless your health visitor or GP say otherwise.
Phase Two
Phase two is all about trying to introduce food that is thicker than phase one. Try to teach them by showing them how to chew by showing them how you do it. A good 4little1s.com mums tip is to try to have mealtimes all together so baby can see you all eating and chewing etc.
Phase three
Nearly there now
.. Try and avoid salt and sugar, but try introducing food that you all eat, certainly encourage him / her to feed themselves. Dont stop the milk as this is still their main drink.
Weaning is an important phase of your babies development and is another step towards independence. As they grow and develop, there will be more and more of these milestones that occur, all making your little one more independent and able to do things themselves.
Please note that all babies are individuals and the above advice should be taken with consideration to your own circumstances. If you are not sure about anything always speak to your GP or your health visitor.
