Christmas Tree Survey
The 4little1s.com Christmas tree Results
As we approach the festive season once again, we thought we would conduct a little survey with our customers and members of the public regarding what type of Christmas Tree they are considering this year and why. As we become more environmentally aware, people are questioning is it right to have a real or artificial tree this year. Well the 2010 results are in following the 4little1s.com survey about what type of Christmas tree are you planning to go for this year. Responses were collated for a number of our existing customers, responses from our Facebook and Twitter posts as well as from a number of the leading online parenting forums.
The results show:
29 percent said they would be having a Real Christmas Tree 71 percent said they would be having an artificial Christmas Tree
Did you know: 'Most real Christmas trees are harvested after 8-12 years'
Cost and hassle factor of a real one appeared to be the main reason people opted for the artificial tree. Clearly an artificial tree can be used again and again. The real one has a short life span.
Artificial Christmas trees now actually look real, they have come on leaps and bounds over the years. No longer do they look like a a sparse stick with spiky green wire sticking out. In fact they were originally manufactured by a toilet brush company.
Did you know: ' Each year, an acre of Douglas fir trees can absorb 11,308 lbs of carbon dioxide'.
Things to consider environmentally when purchasing an artificial tree:
Can use again and again Manufacturing costs in PVC (petroleum-derived plastic) Eventual disposal cost of PVC Non renewable Supply chain transportation - usually China not biodegradable and cannot be recycled
Things to consider environmentally when purchasing a real tree:
Will not last Disposal costs ? Take to garden centre / burn ? Annual transportation CO2 absorption Supply chain transportation - usually nearer than China Tree can be recycled naturally
