Online Retail Trends
The points below were taken from an online retailing site about sales, trends and forecasts etc. It is all US based and the sources are listed below but it still makes for an interesting read for Europe, so I bullet pointed my notes below:
- In Q2 2009, Android phones accounted for 3.9% of smartphones sales. That figure rose to 34.1% in Q2 2010.
- Smartphone Marketshare Q2 2010 - Blackberry 35%, iPhone 28%
- Compared with all smartphone owners and conventional mobile phone owners, iPhone owners shop more !
- More than 126 million US consumers are expected to own a smartphone by 2013
- More Women have Facebook accounts than men
- Women are more likly to paly games on social networks and consider themselves addicted
- Retailers use Google paid search more than any other
- More sites accept invalid email addresses when signing up than those that don't
- Most retailers using Paid Keywords, followed by Banner adds, Affiliate networks and then mobile ads
- Google Adsense revenue rose 22.6%
- March 2010 Search engine market share as follows: Google, Yahoo , Bing , Ask
- Percentage of the US population with a social media profile aged 25-34 = 65%
- Global leader in terms of percentage who made a web purchase 2009 - South Korea
- Followed by Japan 89%, then Sweden 77%
- North Dakota spends 16.17% of the median income ($7975 online in 2009)
- Mobile Commerce growth predicted to grow rapidly until 2015
- By 2013 more people will access the Internet via a mobile device than a desktop / laptop device
- Women spend 41% more time on social networking websites than men (Facebook, Twitter etc)
- 88% of the USA population have heard of Twitter
- 84% of USA households have Braodband
- US online consumers in the age bracket 31 - 44 are the most likely to read online ratings and reviews
- 31% of Android users use their smartphone for GPS navigation
- Click fraud increasing mainly due to botnets and malware
