A number of scientists believe that becoming pregnant and ongoing motherhood increases your ability for up 20 years to memorise and learn easier. It is also thought that the mother's senses become more accurate including smell and hearing.
While no scientist myself, I have to admit I do feel my hearing has improved and I can hear my babies breathing in the still of the night in another room. The slightest squeak from them and I'm awake listening even harder to see if baby is OK.
According to a number of American Science Magazines, it is believed to be linked in with good old Mother Nature and the adaption of new situations and conditions. Clearly hormonal imbalances during this time are unsettled and this maybe attributed to the increased senses.
The single biggest issue may be the lack of sleep new parents experience, which could well hide the ability to the full extent. Obviously overcoming this may well be the assistance your brain could need.
The human brain is an undiscovered and uncharted map that holds many secrets we do not know about. Possibly over the coming years this may be unfolded and we are able to cast greater light on the subject.
For me, I do not know the answers but I can certainly say my senses have been heighted (particularly hearing) but I'm not sure about the IQ levels.
